Tough week

It's Friday already and I'm quite relieved.

I haven't had the best of weeks, but hey that's life for ya!

I sold NCT this week at 6.08. Although I could have made a bit more, I'm pleased I made a profit. A total of $242.50 isn't much I admit, but, if I had invested $10,000 and not just $1,000 I would have been very happy.

At least it is showing me the system is working. I know the indexes have, this week, reached 2 year highs, but the majority of the shares I have been charting are moving in a side ways direction. Maybe it's still a little early for buying shares using Darvas boxes. On a positive note though, I am very sure the markets will follow the indexes and be hitting new highs. So although I am out of the Market for now, I'm hopeful it won't be for too long.

Number one son returned to the Marigold house hold in the wee hours of this morning. He seems to have enjoyed his trip home to the UK and a short visit to see his sister and mates. I think he overdosed on the Indian take aways, but can't say I blame him, I always do the same when in the UK.

I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend and I'm hoping a good one with no stress. Hope yours us a good one too!

Christmas crackers

I've put my Christmas tree up, but it still doesn't feel like Christmas. Maybe this year is going to be a non-Christmas? Bah humbug me

Why can't you buy crackers in the states, and not the sort you eat with cheese?

It's been a rubbish day today, please send some Christmas cheer my way and a big fat cheque wouldnt go amiss either!

Disappointing book

I learned all I know ( which isn't much) about trading shares from reading books. I have read several, the one which struck a chord with me right from the start was How I Made $2,000,000 on the stock Market by Nicolas Darvas. I read this book cover to cover then read it again. It was a system which seemed to make sense. Since then I have read all the other Darvas books and they are now the bible in my house on trading.

So, imagine my excitement when I found on Amazon a new book, which was called How I Made Money Using the Darvas System by Steve Burns. The review promised to bring this system which was devised in the pre computer era, bang up to date and usable in the current day. Woopie I thought, some one else using the system, I wonder how much they have made and how the system has been revolutionised!

This book arrived over the weekend, so I tore the packaging off and settled down for my longed for read. An hour later, only 60 odd pages in the book, and oh what disappointment! Most of this guys money was made from his company giving him shares, and, he made only $3,500 on the Darvas system! His revolutionary way to find shares was to look on MSN money for 52 week highs.... maybe I'm not as dumb as my blonde hair suggests!

Honestly, if this was worth publishing a book then I'm J K Rowling!

On a far more exciting note, number one son is currently on a flight to the UK sitting a few seats from Amir Khan, returning to the UK after his world title defence in Vegas Saturday night. Now that is worth writing about!

I love saturdays

How I love the weekends!

Went for a latte with Mr Marigold this morning, I do enjoy a leisurely coffee in the sun. It's nice to sit and people watch too, plenty of strange sights to behold in our neck of the woods!

We then went and attacked the maddening crowds at Walmart and finally started our Christmas shopping! They say women were born to shop but I certainly wasn't, after 15 minutes my patience has upped and left, and I'm ready for home! We did manage to buy everything which needs to be sent to friends and family in Europe and even a little tree for the living room. So just a couple of pressies left to get from Amazon and I'm done!

Off to the cinema this afternoon to watch the new Colin Firth movie, The Kings Speech. Then back by 8pm so we can watch the Amir Khan fight.

Loving my Saturday

NCT has it run out of steam?

I have been a little disappointed with NCT this last week. It is still in it's box but hasn't made any good gains. I'm starting to wonder if it has peaked?

I think it is a definite talent, or maybe experience, to know exactly the point to sell a share. I don't want to hold onto any if it's not making money. The whole point of buying into the stock market is to make my money work for me, and I have read so many times not to be emotional. If it's not performing, it goes! I will see what it does tomorrow.

I have been watching on the BBC, the protests about the proposed increase in costs of university fees in the UK. Obviously I don't think they should use violence but I agree with the cause 100%. My daughter will finish uni next year, and the £3,000 yearly fee has been hard to come by. Next September my youngest will be starting his university education and £9,000 a year is a huge burden. If you pay the fees in full, they will add 10% to the annual cost! So they actually want you to get in debt and penalise you if you don't! That's just madness.

I wonder what Charlie and Camilla think, I saw their car window was smashed and paint thrown over it, as they were caught up in the protests. Just ain't British eh?

Mid week

This week has been a bit of a damp squid with the old shares. I'm trying not to read the financial reports as to what's happening, as Darvas used to deliberately ignore them.

His theory was to concentrate on the shares behaviour only, so this is exactly what I am trying to do! NCT is staying within it's box, infact yesterday it pushed through the top of it, but fell back during the day.

Tonight I'm off to a local auction, need a dinning room table with Christmas fast approaching. It doesn't feel the slightest bit christmassy yet, I'm not sure if that's because it's a sunny 23 degrees here or because I'm trying to postpone it in my mind because lack of cash flow at the moment....it's probably a bit of both if I were honest. Mr Marigold went to his works Xmas dinner today and they presented everyone with a mug containing the works logo!!

What are they trying to say??

No financial advisor

I was asked today why I am not using an advisor to invest on my behalf?

There is a couple of reasons why I'm not.

The first being I don't want to pay someone for the privilege of loosing my money and secondly I want to learn how to find stocks to trade myself.

After hearing so many horror stories from the last 2 or 3 years, I don't really think I could do much worse than some professionals. I know I don't have the training or experience of a broker, but I do have 20 odd years experience in juggling finances. In those 20 years, I haven't made such a hash of the family accounts as some bank managers have in running their organisations. It doesn't take a financial degree to know when to tighten belts and cut back. Nor does it take years of experience to recognise a good buy.

Therefore, if I make money on this little venture then good on me, but if I'm going to loose it, then at least I can have the pleasure in only having myself to blame!!

New week

It was a lovely weekend with the eldest son returning to the family nest for Sunday afternoon and evening. After being used to 3 noisy children, the house is far too quiet these days, only having the one in permanent residence! Keep telling my husband to buy me a new puppy to fill at least one of the gaps!

Over the weekend, I spent a couple of hours sorting out my share charts. Have decided that a few of them are not going the right way so have stopped charting them. The ones I am no longer charting are SIRI, BZ, C, QTM, AKRX, MNDO.

The few I am concentrating on at the moment are FXEN, NCT, UXG, CALP, ALY, FTK, FRM, ICO, WNR

The criteria I follow in selecting shares I chart is as follows, new 52 week high, increase in volume and 30%ish increase in the previous month. I then chart the shares and wait for them to form 'boxes', if they don't form boxes I won't buy as it's these boxes which makes the share a little more predictable in it's behaviour.

I must admit, I am looking forward to the day I can buy comfortably into 3 or 4 different shares and in quite high numbers......I'm so impatient.

Chocolate tart

Well it's Friday evening and all is well!

Just settling down to I'm a celebrity (UK). There's something very satisfying watching the celebs struggle to consume such delights as kangaroo anus and fish eye balls, as I sip my glass of wine and stuff yet another piece of chocolate into my mouth! Yes I'm a right chocolate tart and insist on it almost every day. If I don't manage to finish at night, I hide my stash so no one can find it and nick it!

Been working hard on my share charts today, maybe I should by some in chocolate? No, not now that Cadburys have been taken over, dairy milk bars have already changed, acquiring a disgusting bitter after taste. I should know, I am an expert in this field!

My NCT share is holding up, still bouncing around in its box. In my chart folder I have decided to dump a few of the shares which I have been following, as they are moving side wards or on a slide. I'm trying to concentrate on those ones which are rising. I don't see the point in having shares in loads of companies. I figured if I concentrate on just a few at a time, you get to know the share, and hopefully, will recognise when it's run is over. I don't understand why some people hold onto shares which are falling, as they are obviously taking from the profit of the ones which are performing well? Its simple maths to me, but then, I am a simple person!

Oil find

Desire petroleum have discovered oil off the Falkland Islands, their shares have jumped 24% at the news, some lucky people are gonna be feeling rich tonight!

No snow here!

I just love watching the snow on the TV across Europe, its 24 degrees here (about 75 in old money). This time last year I was suffering with about 30cm of snow at my front door in Italy. I must admit, im not a snow lover, its far too wet and cold for me, and you cant stand up in the stuff!! So smug smile on my face!

See England missed out on hosting the world cup, at least they have the Olympics in 18 months to look forward to. So well done Russia. I can imagine they are gutted back home, footie is such a big deal. Being brought up in Rugby, I am more a fan of the oval ball. Nothing better than a saturday afternoon at twickers, must try to get a game in there next year.....something else to add to the 'To do List'

So money needed for this list, NCT has formed a box. The top is $6.25 and the bottom is $5.45, so quite a large box. My sell point at the moment is $5.44, hope it forges upwards into another box. If not, I have a few new shares im watching, some very interesting ones aswell so its definitely feeling  like the beginnings of a bull market, and about time too. Can only be good news. Yay, good news, we could all do with a dose of that.

Just watching Ricky Gervais going all goo goo over a puppy on This Morning.........surreal!
